Trial exhibits are an integral part of the presentation of the traffic accident reconstructionist. Since the analysis is largely based on mathematics and physics, the use of clear, easy to understand graphical representations is much easier for the jury to understand in the short time available. Charts, diagrams, video and still photographs are prepared by Harris Technical Services. The expert that performs the analysis also directs the preparation of the exhibits. This insures the representations are accurate and admissible.
Various types of exhibits lend themselves to particular situations. For time and distance comparisons, we recommend the use of charts. For site lines and accident scenario presentations, scale diagrams are most useful. Live video demonstrations of skid distances are various speeds are very useful. The jury can see the distances the car will skid from a known initial speed. With the use of recording accelerometers, chalk bumper guns and radar guns, every aspect is recorded and presented. Click here to see a video of a skid test. Animations are useful in those situations where it is not practical to recreate the situation within acceptable safety margins. Aerial photos of the accident area can sometimes best show the situation from a distinctive view. No matter the type of case, or the accident scenario, there are always several ways to present the information.
