Vehicles with an EDR on board
The
first model year of vehicles with an Event Data Recorder (EDR) on board is in
1994. Over the subsequent years most automotive manufacturers began to install
EDRs. From 1996 to 2013, the introduction was slow, varying by year, make and
model. In some instances, whether or not a vehicle has an EDR depends upon the
installed options. In other cases, EDRs were introduced at a mid-point of the
model year.
Beginning with the 2014 model year, EDRs are mandatory in all four wheel
vehicles with a GVWR of less than 8,500 pounds..
To see the most current list of vehicles with an EDR you can refer to the
"Help" file in the Bosch Diagnostics CDR Tool Software. The Reader
Version of this software is available at no cost.
This software provides the complete "Help" file and technical data
provided by the full version of the software. The Reader Version will also
open any EDR file that was recovered using the full, paid and licensed version
of CDR Tool.
The Reader Version will not recover crash data from a vehicle or module even
if the required hardware is available.
You can download the free Reader Version
of CDR Tool here.
The software is self-extracting and installs on a Windows computer. There are
no other versions for use with other operating systems.
Once the software is installed on your computer, click on "Help"
then "Bosch CDR Help" in the drop down menu. In the left pane,
scroll down to "Vehicle and Cable Lookup." You will be presented
with the current list of vehicle manufacturers. Click on any manufacturer name
and you will be presented with the list of vehicles ordered by year and model.
